Sir Harold Warris Thompson (1908-1983), British physical chemist and spectroscopist, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1946 and served as its Vice President in 1963-1964, 1965-1971, and Foreign Secretary between 1965-1971. He was awarded the Society’s Davy Medal in 1946 ‘in recognition of his distinguished contributions to infra-red spectroscopy and its application to chemical problems’.
