Half-length portrait of John Barrow inclined slightly right as viewed, dressed in a dinner jacket and necktie.
Inscribed: ‘Sir John Barrow Bart./ Secretary of the Admiralty from 1804-1845/ From the Original Picture by Jackson R. A. 1824. In the possession of Mr. Murray/ London Published by John Murray. Albemarle Street. Janr. 16 1846.’ With further handwritten annotation ‘FRS 1805/ From Sir E. Sabine’s Collection.’
Sir John Barrow, 1st Baronet (1764-1848), British geographer, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1805.
