    Seated portrait of Henrietta Marie Bowdler inclined slightly left and looking out at the viewer. Dressed in a pinafore, shawl and bonnet.

    Inscribed: ‘Drawn by Josh. Slater in 1814. Drawn on Stone by Isaac W. Slater./ London, Published July 1840 by T. Cadel, Strand & by Colnaghi & Son, Pall Mall East.’ With facsimile signature and further handwritten annotation ‘From Sir E. Sabine’s Collection’.

    Henrietta Maria Bowdler (1750-1830), British author and literary expurgator, was not a Fellow of the Royal Society. She was the sister of John Bowdler (1746-1823) FRS.
