Half-length portrait of Richard Boyle inclined slightly left and looking out at the viewer. Dressed in a velvet jacket with sash and Order of the Garter, a white necktie and tightly curled wig.
Inscribed: ‘The Right Honble. RICHARD BOYLE/ Earl of Burlington & Corke Lord High Treasurer of Ireland &c./ Captain of the Honble. Band of Pensioners, One of his MAJESTY’S most Honble. Privy Council, and Knight of the Most Noble Order of the Garter.’
Richard Boyle, 3rd Earl of Burlington and 4th Earl of Cork (1695-1793), British patron of the arts, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1722.
