Half-length portrait of Jean Baptiste Andre Dumas inclined slightly to the right [as viewed] dressed in a dinner jacket, a decorative waistcoat, a shirt and black necktie.
Inscribed: ‘Mairin d’apres nature/ DUMAS/ Rosselin, sucr. de Mme. Delpech, 21, quai Voltaire, Paris. Lith. De Gregorie & Deneux, 9 rue Casette.’ With further handwritten annotation ‘Elec 1840’.
Jean Baptiste Andre Dumas (1800 – 1884), French chemist, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1840.
