Seated portrait of Isaac Hawkins Browne at a writing desk, turning from an open book and writing implements, to look towards the viewer. Dressed in a dark jacket over a white shirt and necktie.
Inscribed: ‘ISAAC HAWKINS BROWNE ESQR./ Born 7 Decr 1745 Died 30 May 1818./ JAMES FITTLER SCULP A.R.A. ENGRAVER TO HIS MAJESTY.’ With further handwritten annotation ‘1770’.
Isaac Hawkins Browne (1745-1818), British poet and politician, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1770.
