Map projected from the North Pole, showing the regions in North America, Europe, and Asia from where the total solar eclipse of 1748 was predicted to be visible. With the track of totality marked, and the penumbra beyond which the eclipse could no
longer be viewed. The main map is surrounded by twenty-four predicted views of the eclipse, from observation points in major towns and cities around the world.
