Three-quarter length seated portrait showing James Keir turned halfway towards his left with a book resting on his right knee. He is seen wearing a dark coat, white shirt and a white cravat. Behind him a fluted column can be seen on the right of the image with a draped curtain on the left.
Inscribed below: ‘JAMES KEIR, ESQR F.R.S. &c.’
James Keir (1735-1820), British chemist, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1785.
