Edgar Douglas Adrian, 1st Baron Adrian (1889-1977), British physiologist, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1923, served as Foreign Secretary between 1946 and 1950 and President between 1950 and 1955. Adrian and Sir Charles Scott Sherrington (1857-1952) were joint recipients of the No-bel Prize (Physiology or Medicine) in 1932 ‘for their discoveries regarding the functions of neurons’.
