Sir Christopher Sydney Cockerell (1910-1999), British engineer, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1967. He was awarded the Society’s Royal Medal in 1966 ‘in recognition of his pioneering invention, and major contributions to the subsequent development of hovercraft’.
