    Description
    Half-length portrait of Hugh Percy, turned to the right as viewed. The sitter is shown wearing the robes and chain of a Knight of the Garter and is posed with his left index finger held lightly against his cheek.

    Frontispiece to Transactions of the Society, instituted at London, for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures, and Commerce…[Transactions of the Royal Society of Arts] v.36 (1818).

    Inscribed below: ‘Hugh, Duke of Northumberland F.R.S. F.S.A. &c. Late one of the Vice-Presidents of the Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures, & Commerce. Engraved by Chas. Warren, from a Portrait by Thos. Phillips R.A. in the Possession of the Earl of Egremont.’

    Hugh Percy, 2nd Duke of Northumberland (1742-1817) British army officer and politician was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1788.
