    Description
    Head and shoulders seated portrait of Augustus Frederick, inclined to the left as viewed, eyes regarding the viewer. The sitter wears a dark coat upon which is the star of the Order of the Garter.

    Frontispiece to Transactions of the Society, instituted at London, for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures, and Commerce…[Transactions of the Royal Society of Arts] v.37 (1819).

    Inscribed below: ‘His Royal Highness The Duke of Sussex K.G. &c. &c. President of the Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures, & Commerce. Engraved by Chas. Warren, from a Painting by Harlow in the possession of T. Savory Esqr.’

    Augustus Frederick, Prince, Duke of Sussex (1773-1843) was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1828. He served as its President from 1830 to 1838.
