Gustav Victor Rudolf Born (1921-2018), German-British pharmacologist, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1972. He was awarded the Society's Royal Medal in 1987 'in recognition of his major contributions to the physiology, pathology and pharmacology of platelets and of his widely used methods for studying platelet function in haemostasis and thrombosis'.
