    Description
    Head and shoulders portrait of John Kersey, facing to the viewer’s right and shown with long dark hair and a moustache. Dressed in a dark coat with a white lawn collar.

    In an oval framing device bearing the inscription: “IOHN KERSEY BORNE AT BODICOT NEERE BANBURY IN THE COUNTY OF OXFORD AO. DNI. 1616.” Below, an inscription on a sculptured banner: “Vox audita perit Litera scripta manet.” On either side of this, two open and two closed volumes, the former with mathematical content.

    Inscribed below: “Soust pinx.1672. Faithorne Sculp.”

    John Kersey was not a Fellow of the Royal Society.
