Sir Andre Geim, Russian-born Dutch-British physicist, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2007. He was awarded the Hughes Medal in 2010 ‘for his revolutionary discovery of graphene’ for which he also received the Nobel Prize in Physics, jointly with Konstantin Novoselov, the same year. He was also awarded the Copley Medal in 2013 ‘for his numerous scientific contributions and, in particular, for initiating research on two-dimensional atomic crystals and their artificial heterostructures.’
