John Michael Ziman (1925-2005), British theoretical physicist, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1967. He was awarded the Rutherford Memorial lecture in 1968 on some problems of growth and spread of science in developing countries. He was also awarded the Bernal Medal and Lecture in 1983 on the collectivization of science and the Medawar Lecture in 1995 on post-academic science.
