Harold Scott MacDonald Coxeter (1907-2003), British mathematician, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1950. He was awarded the Sylvester Medal in 1997 for his achievements in geometry, notably projective geometry, non-euclidean geometry and the analysis of spatial shapes and patterns, and for his substantial contributions to practical group-theory which pervade much modern mathematics.
