George Keith Batchelor (1920-2000), Australian physicist, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1957 and served on the Council between 1986 and 1987. He was awarded the Royal Medal in 1988 "In recognition of his distinguished work on the theory of turbulence and turbulent diffusion, and the theory of microhydrodynamics and colloidal suspensions."
