Two studies of fossilised wood showing wave patterns.
Accompanying text reads ‘They show the variety of the veins, or we mean waves, which are found in several pieces of this wood, sawn and cleaned, thus portrayed from nature, this being done to show the variety of waves, and their beauty.’
Inscribed with the plate number ‘4’ and the individual illustrations posthumously numbered ’4 and 5.’

Francesco Stelluti (1577-1652), Italian naturalist, was a founding member of the Accademia dei Lincei.
