Head and shoulders portrait of John Charnley in three quarter profile to the left and looking off to distance. He is seated but turned to the left and rests both hands on the back of the chair. He is wearing wire rimmed spectacles and is dressed in a dark suit jacket, white shirt, and silk tie.
