Sir Charles William Oatley (1904-1996), British electrical engineer, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1969. He was awarded the Royal Medal in 1969 in ‘recognition of his distinguished work in the wartime development of radar and latterly for the design and development of a highly successful scanning electron microscope." He was also awarded the Mullard Medal in 1973.
