Klaus Freidrich Roth (1925-2015) German-born British mathematician was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1960. He was awarded the Sylvester Medal in 1991 for his many contributions to number theory and in particular his solution of the famous problem concerning approximating algebraic numbers by rationals.
