Sir John Shipley Rowlinson (1926-2018) British physical chemist was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1970 and served on its Council between 1994 and 1999. He was awarded the Leverhulme Medal in 1993 for his contributions to thermodynamics, in particular to an understanding of the physical chemistry of gas-liquid interfaces and surfaces.
