Description
Half-length portrait of John Knowles turned slightly towards his left. He is shown in a wide-collared jacket with a white shirt and cravat. His face is portrayed in the most detail with the lower portion of his jacket left unshaded.

John Knolwes (1781-1841), British author, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1821.
