    Description
    Graphical representation of interference spectra. Figure 1 shows the phases produced from successive openings in a diffraction grating. Figure 2 represents the spectrum produced by a narrow slit of sunlight passing through a coarse diffraction grating.

    Albert Abraham Michelson (1852-1931), American physicist, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1902. He was awarded the Copley Medal in 1907 for his investigations in optics.
