Description
View across an expanse of water looking towards a rough mountain range. A rowing boat can be seen approaching the island of Hakstein towards the right side of the image, with a sailing boat visible towards the left edge. The view is from Skjervøya, looking southeast towards the mainland, Kvænangstindan is the highest peak in this mountain range.

James David Forbes (1809 - 1868), British physicist and glaciologist, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1832. He was awarded the Rumford Medal in 1838, the Royal Medal in 1843 and delivered the Bakerian lecture in 1842 and 1846.
