    Map of a section of the St. Lawrence River showing the Quebec Basin and the Île d'Orléans. Quebec City can be seen at the left edge of the map, with the ramparts of the fortified city clearly shown. Pointe d'Argentenay, the northeastern tip of Île d'Orléans, is also marked on the map.

    Jacques-Nicolas Bellin (1703-1772), French hydrographer, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1753.
