    Map of the islands of the Bahamas with the eastern coast of Florida shown at the left edge of the map. Cuba is also visible at the lower left corner with the remainder of the map showing the northern half of the Lucayan Archipelago.

    Jacques-Nicolas Bellin (1703-1772), French hydrographer, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1753.
