    Description
Map showing the natural harbour on the south coast of Jamaica, with the city of Kingston visible in the centre of the map. Kingston is seen across from the Palisadoes strip, which almost seals off the entrance to the harbour. The town of Port Royal is shown on the end of the strip, at the entrance to the harbour.

Plate 56 from Le petit atlas maritime: recueil de cartes et plans des quatre parties du monde; en cinq volumes ... vol.1, by Jacques-Nicholas Bellin (Paris, Ministere de la Marine, 1764).

Inscribed top right: ‘Tome I. No.55.’ With a cartouche lower right: ‘CARTE DES HAVRES / DE KINGSTOWN ET DE PORT ROYAL / Echelle d’une Lieue Marine de France de 2853 Toises.’

Jacques-Nicolas Bellin (1703-1772), French hydrographer, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1753.
