    Map of the bay and harbour around Fort-Liberté on the north coast of Hispaniola, shown here as the French colony of Fort-Dauphin. The French city occupied the same location as the previous Spanish city of Bayaja. Bayau Island can be seen within the bay, with the fortified settlement shown on the coast.

    Jacques-Nicolas Bellin (1703-1772), French hydrographer, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1753.
