    Map of Île-à-Vache, a small island off the south coast of Haiti, shown here as part of the French colony of Saint-Domingue, which also included the west half of Hispaniola. The maps shows the terrain of the sparsely forested hilly island as well as the smaller islets that surround it.

    Jacques-Nicolas Bellin (1703-1772), French hydrographer, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1753.
