Description
Rectangular portrait medal of Jean-Baptiste Auguste Chauveau, showing his head and shoulders in profile. He is seen with a thick moustache and hair reaching down to his collar. The reverse of the medal shows Chauveau with two assistants in a laboratory setting, measuring the heart rate of a horse.
Obverse, engraved: ‘PAUL RICHER’, inscribed below: ‘J-B. A. CHAUVEU’. Reverse, engraved: ‘PAUL RICHER’, inscribed below: ‘ABDITA NATURÆ SCRUTATUS MENTE VIGENTI’.
Jean-Baptiste Auguste Chauveau (1827-1917), French physiologist and veterinary surgeon, was elected a Foreign Member of the Royal Society in 1889.
