    Description
    Royal Medal of the Royal Society, awarded to William Hyde Wollaston in 1828 for chemical work on the properties of different medals found in the ores of platinum. The observe of the medals shows the head of King George III in profile with the reverse featuring the statue of Isaac Newton in the chapel of Trinity College, Cambridge with astronomical diagrams on either side.

    Obverse, inscribed: ‘GEORGIUS III REX SOC. REG. LOND. PATRONUS.’ ‘1826’ W. WYON A.R.A / MINT.’ Reverse, inscribed: ‘REGIS MUNIFICENTIA ARBITRIO SOCIETATIS’ ‘NEWTON’.

    William Hyde Wollaston (1766-1828), British chemist, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1793. He served as President of the Royal Society June 1820 to November 1820.
