Circular portrait medal of Issac Newton, showing his head and shoulders in profile on the obverse with an allegorical female figure of Science on the reverse. The figure is seen with a winged head holding a diagram of the solar system that shows the path of a comet.
Obverse, inscribed: ‘ISAACUS NEWTONUS’ ‘I.C’. Reverse, inscribed: ‘FELIX COGNOSCERE CAUSAS’ ‘M DCC XXVI’.
Sir Isaac Newton (1642-1727), British natural philosopher, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1672, he served as its President from 1703 to 1727.
