Philip MacDonald Sheppard (1921-1976) British geneticist was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1965. He was awarded the Darwin Medal in 1974 in recognition of his outstanding work on natural populations of butterflies, describing and explaining the operation of natural selection and demonstrating the genetic basis upon which selection operates.
