Sir Harold Warris Thompson (1908-1983) British physical chemist and spectroscopist was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1946 and served on its Council as Vice President between 1963 and 1964 and Foreign Secretary between 1965 and 1971. He was awarded the Society’s Davy Medal in 1946 in recognition of his distinguished contributions to infra-red spectroscopy and its application to chemical problems.
