Sir Alan Walsh (1916-1998) British physicist was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1969. He was awarded the Royal Medal in 1976 in recognition of his distinguished contributions to emission and infra-red spectroscopy and his origination of the atomic absorption method of quantitative analysis.
