John Paul Wild (1923-2008) British astronomer was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1970. He was awarded the Royal Medal in 1980 in recognition of his conception of the basic principles of the Interscan aircraft instrument landing system and the guidance of its development to a successful conclusion.
