    Half-length portrait of Thomas Fantet de Lagny holding a rolled parchment with a geometric diagram. He is shown in a formal jacket with frilled cuffs and a cravat around his neck. The portrait is within an oval frame with a plaque below surmounted by two coats of arms. A collection of books, diagrams and scientific instruments are shown on the edges of the plaque.
