    Interior view of the cold store room at the Government Laboratories at Clement's Inn Passage, Strand, London. Showing wine, beer, and other bottles on shelves within the room, and baskets of bottles at floor level. No human figures are shown, but the location and subject matter are similar to MS/373/4/26 (RS.22202).

    Not captioned or stamped. This image was used in the article 'The Government Laboratory', by John Mills, The Strand Magazine, vol.21, May 1901, pp.561-571, and captioned: 'The cold store-room, containing bottles of arsenical beer, etc., ready for analysis'.

    From the papers of Thomas Thorpe. Sir Thomas Edward Thorpe (1845-1925), British chemist served as Chief Chemist to the British Government, as Director of the Government Laboratory, from 1894 to 1909. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1863.
