    Head and shoulders portrait of Lagrange, shown half-face to the left as viewed, with natural white hair. He wears a medal decoration on the left lapel.

    Inscribed: “Engraved by Robt. Hart. LA GRANGE. From a Bust in the Library of the Institute of France. Under the Superintendence of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge. London. Published by Charles Knight, Pall Mall East.” In pencil lower left “Elected [1789 struck through] 1791”.

    Joseph Louis Lagrange was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1791.
