    Description
Map of Fort Louis on the island of Grande-Terre, part of Guadeloupe in the Caribbean Sea. This area is now known as Bas du Fort in the Le Gosier region of Grande-Terre. The Grande Baie can be seen at the lower edge of the map with the Îlet à Cochons shown at the top. The orientation of the map is incorrect, with the north arrow actually pointing west.

Plate 89 from Le petit atlas maritime: recueil de cartes et plans des quatre parties du monde; en cinq volumes ... vol.1, by Jacques-Nicholas Bellin (Paris, Ministere de la Marine, 1764).

Inscribed top right: ‘Tome I. No.89.’ With a cartouche lower left: ‘ENVIRONS DU FORT LOUIS / de la Guadeloupe / Echelle de Deux Cent Toises.’

Jacques-Nicolas Bellin (1703-1772), French hydrographer, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1753.
