Description
Full-length formal studio portrait of Edwin Lankester turned slightly towards the right, as viewed, and holding onto a chair with his left hand. He is seen in a dark jacket, white shirt and black bowtie with his hair combed back and a greying beard across his jawline.
Two large curtains frame the image and one of the studio’s distinctive patterned floors can be seen. A cast iron brady stand to assist with keeping Lankester still during the long exposure time can be seen behind him, with its central pole just visible by his left leg.
Edwin Lankester (1814-1874), British physician, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1845.
