Description
Half-length portrait of John Latham in profile, wearing a jacket with a frilled cravat. He faces towards the right as viewed and is seen with a stiff wig that covers the tops of his ears and runs down his back. His face is shown in the most detail with the lower portion of his jacket and the back of his chair left unshaded.
Inscribed below: ‘JOHN LATHAM M.D.’ ‘Geo. Dance delt Augst 21, 1798.’ ‘Wm Daniell Fecit.’ ‘Published as the Act directs, for Geo. Dance Esqr R.A. Upper Gower Street, April 10, 1802.’
John Latham (1761-1843), British physician, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1801.
