Inscribed: “Sir John Bennet Lawes, Bart, D.C/L., L.L.D., F.R.S. from the Painting by Mr. Hubert Herkomer, R.A. Presented by the Subscribers to the Rothamstead Jubilee Fund, 1893”. Autographed in pencil below: “J.B.Lawes”. Lower left: “el 1854 April ’94”.
John Bennet Lawes was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1854.
