    Head and shoulders portrait of Claude-Nicolas Le Cat looking towards the left, as viewed, within an oval frame. Le Cat is shown wearing a head cloth and an open shirt and is presented against a dark background. The original image is sometimes attributed to Jean Restout’s son, Jean-Bernard Restout (1732-1797).

    Inscribed below: ‘LE CAT.’ ‘Restout del.’ ‘Henriquès Sculp. 1771.’

    Claude-Nicolas Le Cat (1700-1768), French surgeon, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1740.
