Three-quarter length seated portrait showing Antoni van Leeuwenhoek at his desk. He is seen in a long robe with a frilled shirt underneath and a white cravat around his neck. He has brown, curly hair, a thin moustache and is holding a pair of callipers in his right hand. His desk holds writing equipment as well as a globe and a document with a large wax seal. A natural landscape can be glimpsed out of the window by his left shoulder.
