Description
Half-length portrait showing Philip Henry Stanhope wrapped in a large cloak with a column and a clouded sky visible behind him. Under the cloak, Stanhope is seen wearing a dark jacket, light waistcoat and dark cravat. He is facing out towards the right, as viewed, and holds his right hand up on his left lapel.

Philip Henry Stanhope, 5th Earl Stanhope, Viscount Mahon (1805-1875), British antiquary and politician, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1827.
