Description
Three-quarter length standing portrait of Edward Maltby in loose ecclesiastical vestments, a dark stole and neck bands. He is shown turned slightly towards the left, as viewed, and holds his hands together in front of him. He is seen holding a book in his left hand and a metal ring in his right. He is presented in an interior setting with a table to his right and a draped curtain behind him.

Edward Maltby (1770-1859), British clergyman and Bishop of Durham, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1824.
