    Full-length portrait showing Frederick Marryat leaning against the base of a column at the top of a stone staircase. He is presented in a dark tailcoat, white trousers, a white waistcoat, black cravat and white wing-collar shirt. He is turned towards the left, as viewed, and is seen with his arms crossed and his right leg crossed over his left.

    Inscribed below: ‘Drawn by W.Behnes.’ ‘Engraved by H. Cook.’ ‘Captn Marryat, R.N.’ ‘Printed by McQueen.’ ‘London, Published Octr 1, 1835, for the Proprietor, by Charles Tilt, 86, Fleet Street.’

    Frederick Marryat (1792-1848), British naval officer, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1819.
